They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression. That being said, I hope that I portray myself, and my appreciation accurately in this introduction. Within the next few months I will receive my Captains License, and I hope to make good on a course that will afford me the opportunity to both enlighten and be enlightened. I have had the great pleasure of fishing with numerous accomplished anglers, all of which have played a considerable roll in my education. One in particular has extended me an opportunity few have had the good fortune to receive. The opportunity to guide for an established and well respected organization. I am speaking of Captain Chris Martin of Bay Flats Lodge. With the talent rich roster of guides that Bay Flats has to offer, the mere association with the lodge will be an honor. I look forward to working with them, as we bring to you the ultimate in the outdoor experience. The following report will be one of many fishing reports that are intended to help you get the most out of your time spent on the water. I encourage any feedback you may have to offer, so that I can tailor these reports to better cater to those that read them.
Fishing Report 8/17/03
Redfish action in San Antonio bay has reached a feverish pace of late. Our trip on 8/17 would provide me with memories to last a lifetime and a reminder of a lesson that will not be soon forgotten. This morning would begin by probing waste deep water that I had yet to shuffle through. Despite heavy concentrations of bait I felt inclined to head to more familiar water. Even when the water read to stay, previous success in more familiar areas had me wanting to make a be line to the boat.. Had I have done so, we would have missed some of the best redfish action that one can experience. We were soon to find a sea of broad shouldered crimson backs that would leave an indelible mark on our minds and not to mention our tackle. In the next hour and a half we would see drag screeching runs, a broken rod, a straightened jig head, and the sight of a 27" red leaving the water in pursuit of a fully retrieved corky devil. We finished a 4-man limit by 9am but in the process a lesson was reaffirmed. The importance of scouting new water. More often then not, we are all guilty of settling into a pattern of fishing the same areas, while running past miles of productive shoreline. In closing, spend a little more time scouting, you just might be passing up the trip of a lifetime.
Just the facts for 8/17:
Structure: Sand bottom with scattered shell
Depth: 3'
Bait: Corky devils and Norton bull minnows
Time: 7:30am-9am 4-man limit/redfish

Major/Minor: Minor 10:08am/ Major 3:57am/ Minor10:28pm/ Major 4:18pm
